Does Green Tea Reduce Your Risk of Cancer?

There is no credible evidence to support qualified health claims for green tea consumption and a reduced risk of gastric, lung, colon/rectal, oesophageal, pancreatic, ovarian, and combined cancers.  There is also very limited credible evidence for qualified health claims specifically for green tea and breast cancer and for green tea and prostate cancer.

To this effect, the FDA has made the following statement:
  1. "Two studies do not show that drinking green tea reduces the risk of breast cancer in women, but one weaker, more limited study suggests that drinking green tea may reduce this risk.  Based on these studies, FDA concludes that it is highly unlikely that green tea reduces the risk of breast cancer."
  2.
  3. "One weak and limited study does not show that drinking green tea reduces the risk of prostate cancer, but another weak and limited study suggests that drinking green tea may reduce this risk.  Based on these studies, FDA concludes that it is highly unlikely that green tea reduces the risk of prostate cancer."
