Why do I need to visit the dentist every 6 months?

A good analogy here is that of taking your car in for a twice yearly service: you know that by doing this, you will ensure that it stays in a good condition as well as nipping any problems in the bud.

Plus your garage is knowledgeable and experienced enough to undertake this for you. They can offer advice on all aspects of your car as well as recommending things that you can do for yourself.

This analogy can be equally applied here: if we want to ensure that our teeth and gums stay in the best possible condition then we need to look after them on a regular basis. This also includes engaging the services of a professional, such as a dentist.

Even if we religiously care for our teeth, there is always the chance that something can go wrong. Gum disease or tooth decay takes time to develop and these twice yearly check ups can spot the early signs of these. This early intervention can save both time and money in the long run.

It might seem like a chore but these visits don’t usually take long and can be viewed as an ‘MOT’ for your teeth.
