Tooth Whitening Toothpastes

There are many tooth whitening toothpastes out there which can help stained teeth. They don’t change the actual colour of your teeth but they are a low cost way of improving their general condition.

They all claim to whiten your teeth and so improve their appearance but you do need to separate the hype from the reality. The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry warns consumers that they don’t always deliver what they promise and in some cases can cause long term damage to the teeth.

What do they contain?

These toothpastes contain mild abrasives which can remove surface level stains. The difference between these and your ordinary toothpaste is that they contain special chemicals and polishing agents. These tend to be more effective at removing stains than ordinary toothpaste.

Do they whiten your teeth?

No. They are good for removing stains and improving the condition of your teeth but they don’t bleach your teeth. If you are looking for that ultra white smile then consider a tooth whitening procedure such as BriteSmile or a home whitening kit.

If you drink tea or coffee, smoke or enjoy a curry then a tooth whitening toothpaste can help. This toothpaste is also a good option if you have undergone a tooth whitening procedure as it can help to prevent the build up of stains following treatment.
