Who is not suitable for blepharoplasty / eyelid surgery ?

If you suffer from any of the following medical conditions then you may be unsuitable for this surgery. These are:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Hypothyroidism and ‘Graves Disease’ (thyroid problems)
  • Dry eyes or problems with tear ducts
  • Detached retina
  • Glaucoma
  • Prone to keloids (angry, red scars)

If you have any of these problems then it doesn’t mean automatic exclusion from surgery. What is does mean however, is that you are at increased risk from complications because of these.

If you have any problems with your eyes then you might want to speak to an ophthalmologist first. Your surgeon may also recommend you do this before making a decision about surgery.
