Q11. What is ‘phalloplasty?’

A11. A phalloplasty is another name for penis enlargement surgery. It is often used to describe the procedure in which the penis is increased in size for aesthetic purposes.

However, phalloplasty can perform two functions:

  • Penis enlargement surgery
  • Penis reconstruction surgery following an accident or injury. Other factors include that of a congenital birth defect in which the man is born with a deformed penis. Or reconstruction following penile cancer.

Phalloplasty is also performed on female to male transsexuals. This involves taking a roll of fat from an area of the body and using this to construct a functioning penis.
