Use: Erectile dysfunction (impotence)

Levitra is a phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitor. It works by increasing blood into the penis when sexually excited to cause an erection.

Dose:

10 mg 30-60 mins before sexual activity. Maximum one dose per 24 hours.

Onset of effect may be delayed if taken with high-fat meal.

Cautions:

- heart disease
- anatomical deformation of the penis
- liver impairment
- kidney impairment
- bleeding disorders
- active peptic ulcer

Contra-indications:

- use of nitrates
- hypotension (low blood pressure)
- recent stroke
- unstable angina
- heart attack
- hereditary degenerative retinal disorders

Side effects:

The most common side effects include headache, indigestion and facial flushing.

Occasional:

- indigestion/heartburn
- vomiting
- headache
- flushing
- dizziness
- visual disturbance
- nasal congestion

Less commonly:

- drowsiness
- high blood pressure
- tachycardia
- palpitations
- breathlessness
- back pain
- muscle pain
