Q24. Does being pregnant increase my chance of high blood pressure?

A24 . Some women go through pregnancy without any problems such as this but others find that they either develop high blood pressure before they become pregnant (gestational hypertension) or after the twentieth week of their pregnancy.

If they develop high blood pressure at a later stage then this combined with excess protein in the woman’s urine can lead to a serious condition called ‘pre-eclampsia’.

This and gestational hypertension are discussed in more detail within our women and high blood pressure section.
