Pregnancy: Hair removal before or after tanning

In preparing for tanning, whether by sun or sunless, many people choose to remove body hair beforehand through shaving, hair removal creams, leg wax or beauty treatments, such as laser hair removal. When pregnant, women may experience excess hair growth also on the tummy and face, and may want to remove this unwanted hair become of a sense of embarrassment or irritation. The irritation can increase due to the sensitivity of the skin and this can cause additional stress to the pregnant mother and her foetus.

Considering the type of products and chemical components used for hair removal is vital to limit risk of harm for the pregnant mother and her baby developing in the womb. If attending a beauty clinic, always inform the therapist or beautician of the pregnancy so that they can advise on options and safety. Care should be taken when:
