Breast tattoos and breast feeding

Having a new tattoo on the breast is not advisable during pregnancy because the ink or pigment mix chemicals used for the tattoo may be absorbed in the mother’s milk and be transferred to the developing baby during breast feeding. Contamination may occur that is harmful to the child.

In addition, skin tissue of the breast may become infected and the infection may spread to the developing child. In addition, breast infection raises the chances of breast cancer. Such infections can later impact a woman’s chances in breastfeeding too. Women who are not pregnant and wish to have breast tattoos should consult a medical professional about the risks beforehand.
