How common are false negative results?

Home pregnancy tests are around 97% accurate on average so false negative results are not very common; however, false negative results are much more common than false positive tests. False negative results usually occur as a result of the test being done too early; if this is the case the levels of HCG will be too low for the test to detect. You may also get an inaccurate result if you do the test incorrectly.
