A3. This funnel shaped structure lies at the top of our airways and contains the vocal cords, muscles, tissues and cartilage. It is also known as the ‘voice box’.

The larynx joins the windpipe (trachea) to the pharynx. Its main role is the production of sounds for speech etc.
