Cosmetic Surgery Technique ‘Cures’ Excessive Sweating-3092

Do you suffer from excessive sweating? If so, there could be good news. It does mean having some cosmetic surgery.

The technique came about when one patient of Dr. Elliot Jacobs, who runs a clinic in Park Avenue, New York, told him that after the operation his other problem, namely profuse underarm sweating had improved. Since then other patients have said the same thing.

Profuse sweating, medically known as Hyperhidrosis results from faulty sweat glands which produces too much water, particularly during humid and hot conditions. While sweating is normal to cool the body down, it is excessive for those suffering from Hyperhidrosis.

The cosmetic surgery technique used by Dr. Jacobs is liposuction. Traditionally Botox is used to treat the problem. However Dr. Jacobs told reporters: “Botox temporarily paralyses the underarm sweat glands and offers some relief, but it wears off in about three months. So the patient must regularly return for additional injections.”

He added: “As far as I know, ours is the only office treating Hyperhidrosis with liposuction.”

While Sweat Lipo as the technique is called is not a total cure for excessive sweating, it does appear to reduce the phenomenon by as much as 80%.What’s more, the procedure is not large scale. Just one-eighth of an inch cut is applied to the skin in the armpits, with the opening being closed with a single self dissolving stitch after the liposuction procedure is carried out.
