Nurse Donates Hair To Charitable Organisation-1956

With all the depressing news these days both in the UK and abroad, you could be forgiven if you wanted to pull your hair out or lost it through worry.

So hopefully this little article will uplift your spirits.

A nurse in the USA, who works for the Onslow County Health Department, decided to donate her hair to a good cause.

Felicia Stewart lopped off 27 inches and gave it away to the Locks of Love organisation. This particular charity provides hairpieces to children who are financially disadvantaged, and who unfortunately suffer from hair loss disorders.

Ms Stewart who works as a communicable disease nurse told a colleague that she would chop her hair if her friend Lynne Pridgen and other employees at the health department would raise a minimum of $200 for another favoured charity – Onslow Women’s Health Fund.

The Onslow Women’s Health Fund is part of the North Carolina Community Foundation. This particular group helps uninsured and underinsured women in Onslow County.

Speaking with reporters, a colleague of Felicia Stewart said: “What we do is provide services like diagnostic procedures like mammograms. We have ladies here at the health department that screens them and they can come from anywhere. A doctor may call and say they know someone who needs a mammogram and we’ll tell them to send them down, with proof that they are uninsured or underinsured.”

Thanks to Felicia’s hair loss, colleagues managed to raise $250. She said: “A lot of them had never seen me with my hair down because I always wore it in a bun or clipped up.”
