Russ L’HommeDieu who is now 45, was a pre-diabetic. He was so large he was unable to weigh himself accurately. It seems the scales couldn\u2019t register his weight, which was over 400 pounds.<\/p>\n
However Russ was determined to do something about this problem as he had elevated sugar levels which meant he was a bordering diabetic. In turn, this meant that if he didn\u2019t reduce his weight along with his sugar levels, he was at risk of some major problems associated with his condition including limb amputation, a stroke and heart disease.<\/p>\n
Besides the pre-diabetic diagnosis, Russ was also embarrassed by his young son who wanting to go kayaking. Russ told his child that he wouldn\u2019t let him go into the boat alone.<\/p>\n
So, coupled with his desire to improve his health, Mr. L’HommeDieu made the decision to do something about his weight; and more importantly stick with it whatever it took, and more importantly however long it took.<\/p>\n
Ten years on, Russ is now a physical therapist and wellness coach using his own experience to help others in similar situations.<\/p>\n
It was not easy for Mr. L’HommeDieu to lose the weight but in 2 years he did manage to drop 200 pounds. Armed with this he continued on his regime till he dropped to the weight he and his doctors felt was healthy.<\/p>\n
Ten years on, Russ plans to celebrate his decision by kayaking the 275-mile circumference of Long Island, New York next month.<\/p>\n
