Parents have been left confused and concerned after a New York Times expose revealed the possible dangers associated with dental<\/a> X-rays.<\/p>\n

The piece revealed that dentists across America were using old X-ray machines, which emit higher levels of radiation than newer digital models, which are becoming increasingly popular with orthodontists and other dental specialists.<\/p>\n

Recent studies have also revealed a link between dental X-rays and an increased risk of cancer<\/a>; a study published in Acta Oncologica<\/em> found that exposure to dental X-rays doubled the risk of thyroid cancer; risks continued to increase beyond this figure as exposure to radiation increased.<\/p>\n
