{"id":646,"date":"2011-01-07T09:41:53","date_gmt":"2011-01-07T09:41:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.medic8.com\/news\/?p=646"},"modified":"2011-02-01T09:48:28","modified_gmt":"2011-02-01T09:48:28","slug":"wales-nhs-compensates-close-to-90m-for-negligence-2131","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.medic8.com\/news\/wales-nhs-compensates-close-to-90m-for-negligence-2131\/","title":{"rendered":"Wales NHS Compensates Close to \u00a390m for Negligence-2131"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Calibri; color: #f80a17} p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Calibri} span.s1 {letter-spacing: 0.0px} -->In the last three years, Wales NHS has paid out nearly \u00a390 million in medical negligence compensation.<\/p>\n<p>The Welsh health service\u00a0 paid out \u00a331. million during the 2009\/2010 period, \u00a318 million in 2008\/2009 and a further \u00a338.8 million in 2007\/2008.<\/p>\n<p>In South Wales, the largest compensation pay out was \u00a311.8 million after errors in monitoring and managing a labour and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medic8.com\/healthguide\/pregnancyindex.htm\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"63\" title=\"pregnancy\">birth<\/a> caused serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last three years, there have been15 compensation pay outs that were above \u00a31 million and 70 cases have involved payments of more than \u00a3250,000.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the million-pound cases were the results of errors made during child birth which caused serious injuries including brain damage and cerebral palsy. The compensation money is awarded to provide for the extensive care need, specialist equipment and accommodation needs.<\/p>\n<p>Larger settlements are usually paid out over a combination of a lump sum and annual installments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the last three years, Wales NHS has paid out nearly \u00a390 million in medical negligence compensation.
