Specific Blood Tests

Specific blood tests can be used to diagnose a range of different health conditions; in many cases, general blood tests will not be sufficient to reach a diagnosis and further tests will be required. Specific blood tests can determine levels of certain substances and chemicals, including enzymes, proteins and electrolytes, which help to show how the body is functioning and flag up any problems.

Test results of specific blood tests can also be used to monitor a patient’s condition and check if a treatment is working, as well as being used to reach a diagnosis; this helps doctors to ensure the right treatment is being administered and enables them to keep an eye on a patient’s condition.

The following section of articles will outline the most commonly used specific blood tests, which are used as diagnostic tools by doctors every day. The articles will provide information about how the tests are done, when and why they are carried out and how they are performed.
