Q13. Can children get hernias?

A13. Yes. Both boys and girls can develop hernias, especially an umbilical hernia which often occurs at birth.

They can also develop inguinal and femoral hernias.

Surgery is the preferred form of treatment but with babies, this is usually postponed until the child reaches the age of three of four.
