Q10. What is a sports hernia?

A10. This is not a true hernia in the sense that it is a protrusion of tissue or part of an organ through the abdominal wall. Rather it is a condition in which the muscles of the lower abdomen or groin become weakened during exercise.

Sudden twisting or turning movements during sport will cause this problem. This is a common injury amongst footballers, athletes and ice hockey players.
