Q11. Who gets a hernia?

A11. The answer to that is everyone! Men and women, young and old and children are all capable of developing a hernia.

A hernia is often a result of an underlying weakness in the abdominal wall which allows tissue or part of an organ to push through.

Some people are more prone than others to developing a particular type of hernia, for example inguinal hernias commonly affect men. Umbilical hernias usually affect babies and infants.
