Roux-en-Y Gastric bypass surgery

This is the most common form of gastric bypass although the mini gastric bypass is gaining in popularity. It is named after the Swiss surgeon – Albert Roux who developed the procedure. The ‘Y’ part of the name comes from the method in which the surgeon adjusts the small intestine so that it forms a new route for food to travel through the digestive system.

It is performed by surgeons all around the world and is seen as the ultimate procedure for chronic weight problems. It is guaranteed to produce extensive weight loss in patients. However, this type of bypass might not suit everyone which leaves the option of the newer ‘mini’ gastric bypass.
