Q1. What is premature ejaculation?

A1. This is a medical condition in which a man climaxes (or ejaculates) too quickly and before he and his partner are ready. This happens before, during or just after vaginal penetration and usually within 90 seconds of this penetration. It is difficult to define as every couple is different in respect of what they consider to be a satisfactory time for sexual intercourse. One couple may consider sexual intercourse of less than 20 minutes to be inadequate whereas another couple may view this as perfectly normal. There are various factors to take into account which include the ages of the couple, sexual experience (or lack of) and frequency of sexual intercourse. On average if a man is unable to last for more than a couple of minutes after penetration then he is said to have premature ejaculation. Find out more in our what is premature ejaculation? section.
