Q10. How does Viagra work?

A10. Viagra or ‘ sildenafil’ is an effective form of treatment for impotence. It is one of three drugs called ‘ PDE-5 inhibitors ’ which prevents a chemical called phosphodiesterase type 5 from working properly. This chemical usually breaks down a chemical messenger called cyclic GMP which is responsible for the relaxing and opening of blood vessels within the penis. This enables increased blood flow into the penis and causes an erection. Viagra prevents phosphodiesterase type 5 from breaking down cyclic GMP. This ensures that the blood vessels within the penis remain open which increases blood flow into the penis and results in an erection. Find out more in our Sildenafil (Viagra)section.
