A12. This is a rare infection which is often mistaken for tonsillitis but has the potential to be far more serious than that. In some cases it can be life threatening.

It develops as an abscess on one or possible both tonsils which causes problems with breathing and swallowing. It is accompanied by a swelling around the neck, fever and bad breath.
