Good places to start include the British Dental Association (BDA), the General Dental Council (GDC) and the British Association of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD).

If you know of anyone who has undergone this treatment then ask them for a recommendation. Friends and family are always a good source of information and are well placed to recommend a good practitioner.

There are also numerous websites which contain help and advice on finding a dentist. Many of them will also have a database of cosmetic dentists. Cosmetic Dentist (www.cosmeticdentist.co.uk) and Cosmetic Dentistry Guide (www.cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk) are good examples of these.

Whatever method you use you want to be sure that you find a reputable, experienced dentist who fully understands your needs and requirements. It also helps if you find someone who you like and feel comfortable with. Having a good rapport with him/her is vital.

A good way of approaching this is to have a list of 3 or 4 cosmetic dentists who you can ‘interview’ in turn. This way, you will be sure of finding the person you like and trust.
