Are there any risks associated with breast implant replacement surgery?

Breast implant replacement (or removal) is a safe procedure but like all surgery, comes with a small amount of risk. There is a possibility of complications which applies to all surgical procedures. These are:

  • Heavy bleeding
  • Infection
  • Bad reaction to anaesthesia
  • Disappointing results
  • Diminished or loss of nipple sensation
  • Poor wound healing
  • Blood clots

There has been controversy surrounding the use of silicone gel. It has been claimed that there is a link between breast implants and cancer. However, no definite link has been proved.
