Are there any risks associated with breast implant removal surgery?

As with all surgery, there are small amounts of risk. Complications are rare but do happen and can include the following:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Adverse reaction to a general anaesthetic
  • Poor or unsatisfactory results

It can also be difficult to remove all the excess gel from a ruptured silicone gel implant. This is especially difficult if the capsule itself has been damaged.

There is also the problem of uneven breasts following implant removal. They can appear unbalanced and breast asymmetry surgery will be required to correct this.

Plus, there may be much more noticeable scarring than that of the original surgery.
