Thread Vein Removal
Thread vein reduction is a procedure that involves removing varicose veins, small veins, spider veins and facial veins. Although thread vein reduction may be considered a cosmetic procedure because it removes unsightly veins from the skin, it can be considered a medical procedure as well because varicose veins can be potentially painful.
Understanding Thread Vein Removal
Thread vein reduction is a procedure that is performed with the help of intense pulsed light, or IPL, technology. The procedure is fully customizable and capable of treating every type of small vein disorder, including treating deep veins that are not responsive to other treatment methods.
When receiving an IPL treatment, the patient will feel a sensation similar to a pinprick or heat on the area being treated. Generally, this feeling lasts for only a few seconds and the entire treatment takes only about a half hour to complete. For those who are concerned about the potential pain involved with an IPL treatment, anesthetic creams may be applied to the treatment area about a half hour to an hour prior to the treatment in order to numb the pain.
IPL treatments can be given as often as once every three weeks in order to achieve the desired results. Depending upon the extent of the problem, several treatments may be necessary. Since the treatment is non-invasive, it is considered to be an outpatient procedure and patients can leave the treatment center shortly after the procedure is performed. In addition, the procedure provides long-term results, which means most patients will not need to return in order to have the same veins treated again after the desired results are reached.
Risks Associated with Tread Vein Removal
Since thread vein reduction is a non-invasive procedure, there are essentially no risks associated with the treatment. It is possible, however, for the patient to experience some general irritation or redness to the skin following the procedure. In addition, some patients do find the procedure to be quite uncomfortable and should request that anesthetic cream be used in order to minimize the discomfort.
