Treatment for thread veins

This section contains a range of information about the various forms of treatment available for thread veins. This includes non-surgical methods such as electrolysis and laser treatment as well as natural remedies.

These are discussed further in the non-surgical treatment for thread veins section in this guide.

So what do we know about treatment for thread veins? Thread veins are not painful, do not cause any discomfort or lead to long term problems so it is down to the individual. But if you find that your thread veins are affecting your confidence and self-esteem or they have become an ongoing irritant then consider some form of treatment.

What is important is whether you have developed thread veins due to having varicose veins. There are people who get thread veins as well as varicose veins although others are fortunate enough to escape this problem.

Some people develop thread veins only: others develop both varicose veins and thread veins.

If you have varicose veins then these must be dealt with first before any treatment for varicose veins. The main reason for this is that very often, thread veins are caused by the same factors which cause varicose veins. So it makes sense to deal with varicose first as this may clear up your thread veins as well.

Treating a small section of thread veins

If you have only a small area of thread veins then these can be dealt with very easily. There are several types of camouflage cream available which are effective at covering up a range of skin blemishes which include thread veins. Fake tan is another option.

Other people especially women find that wearing trousers helps to disguise thread veins on their legs.

But larger areas will require cosmetic treatment such as intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment.
