The side effects of Macrolane

There are side effects with every type of cosmetic treatment although these are minimal. The most common side effects of Macrolane are:

• Slight bruising or swelling around the injection site
• Mild inflammation caused by pressure of the gel on the surrounding tissue. This is a normal reaction to any type of injection and usually eases after a few days.
• Itching
• Capsular contraction: occurs in about 3% of breast enhancement cases. A hard case or capsule forms around the gel which causes the treated area to feel lumpy or look misshapen. This capsule can be broken open either by firm massage or under a local anaesthetic (and a top up given).
