Who should consider a body lift?

If you have lost a great amount of weight or have recently undergone gastric bypass surgery then this is a good procedure for removing those unsightly skin folds.

Your general health and reasons for wanting surgery will be discussed thoroughly between you and your surgeon. If he or she is satisfied with your motivations for surgery then you will be considered for this procedure.

This is a demanding form of surgery which can result in a fair degree of scarring. This is something you need to consider.

If you are in good health following gastric bypass surgery or a strict diet; are committed to a sensible diet and exercise plan; a non-smoker; have significant folds of excess fat and skin and are aware of the benefits and risks of this surgery then it is a good option.

Ideally, you should wait 18 months after to stabilise your weight before considering a body lift.

Your surgeon will assess your suitability for this surgery, taking into account your weight loss plus your overall physical and psychological health.

This and other aspects of the cosmetic surgery process are discussed in more detail in any of our individual cosmetic surgery FAQs. Alternatively, visit the General FAQs section which contains advice about cosmetic surgery in general.

Your surgeon will take into account your age (usually performed on patients aged 40 to 60), your current weight, the possible outcome and your medical history.

This procedure is suitable for both men and women.
