Q2. Do varicose veins only develop in your legs?

A2. They can appear in other areas of the body such as the pelvis, buttocks, anus and vagina. But they are more commonly seen in the legs, particularly the lower legs (calves).

The main reason for this is that we spend a great deal of time standing up or sitting down for long periods of time. This causes the circulation to slow down and blood to pool in the lower part of the body. This puts pressure on the veins causing them to weaken, become inflamed and twist out of shape.
