What will happen after my liposuction?

Your progress will be constantly monitored. You will then be returned to your room where your condition will be checked again by a nurse and pain relief given if necessary.

You can expect to have some soreness, bruising and swelling and you will also feel tired and a bit groggy (if you have had a general anaesthetic). You will be given a special support garment similar to a girdle which will help with healing.

If you do have pain or discomfort then you will be given pain medication to control this.

As regards the recovery, most people find that they can go back to work after a few days. You can take some gentle exercise such as walking a week after surgery but give yourself a couple of weeks before resuming normal activities.

If you notice any of the following then contact your surgeon immediately:

  • A rapid or irregular heart beat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pains
  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Severe or chronic pain
